My Method
Developing your voice and presentation skills
Your voice is a powerful means of connection—you want to know you’re making the most of it. Drawing on three decades of experience coaching voices, I bring a specialist skill to my leadership communication and executive presence coaching. Tailoring our work to your particular voice and goals, we may focus on your projection, resonance, tone, breathing or articulation, refining your key public speaking skills—pace, inflection, pause and emphasis—giving your message clarity, nuance and impact. The result is an engaging communication style that feels natural and authentic to you.
Working with your real presentations
After an initial warm-up, each of our session begins with you delivering a short, two-minute presentation. This might be an extract from a presentation you’re working on, an address you gave at a meeting, or a speech you are preparing or have recently delivered. When you’ve finished, we reflect together on how it went. You’ll share any areas you would like to address, and I share my observations, and together we identify our key priorities for our work together. I outline a programme tailored to you, strengthening your presence, your presentation style, communication skills and vocal delivery. We start on our coaching journey there and then in our first session—no time is wasted.
In subsequent sessions, we work through our programme tailored to your particular needs, context, and goals. We build your presence, develop your presentation style, and strengthen your communication skills and vocal delivery so you can step back into your leadership role with confidence in your abilities. In feedback, clients often refer to seeing a noticeable improvement from the first session.
Clear, practical coaching
My approach is focused, practical, and supportive. Clients often comment on the clarity of my explanations and instruction. Between sessions, I set targeted ‘homework’—often practising sections of your presentation while applying specific skills we have worked on together that session. Each session builds on the last. Each time you present to me, I give clear feedback: affirming your good practice, identifying what’s going well and acknowledging progress you have made—whilst clearly identifying areas that need adjustment, so progress is clear and consistent.
A personal process
I work in close partnership with each client to help them develop a communication style, voice and presence that truly reflects their professional capability. Helping clients in this way is both a privilege and a responsibility—and central to the work I do.
Voice matters
Alongside developing the core voice skills for public speaking—articulation, projection, breathing, resonance—I also help you address any particular voice challenges you may have.
For example, if you have been told that you are difficult to hear in meetings or presentations, I help you develop a healthy, stronger vocal tone for public speaking. How does that work? Drawing on my training in Estill Voice Method, I help you find, feel and reproduce a healthy, stronger vocal set-up for public speaking. We explore how this stronger voice relates to your ‘normal’ voice, so you can use both effectively in different contexts. Other voice challenges I help with include finding and adjusting your ideal pitch range for public speaking, stepping away from an over-breathy voice production, healthy voice projection for noisy environments, and vocal stamina for easily tired voices.
Please note: I am not a speech therapist. If you have concerns you think may require medical or therapeutic support, I recommend consulting a qualified speech therapist or ENT specialist.
